CBSE class 12 results out, Goa tops in region

The Chennai region, which covers Maharashtra and nine other states,
secured the highest pass percentage among eight regions in the Central
Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class XII board exam by scoring
90.59 per cent.

The overall pass percentage has, however, dipped as compared to last,
which was 91.32 per cent.The CBSE declared the Class XII results on
Monday.

The Chennai region covers CBSE schools in Maharashtra, Karnataka,
Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondicherry, Daman and Diu,
Andaman and Nicobar Island, Lakshadweep and Goa.

Goa topped the list of pass percentage in Chennai region by securing
(97.21 per cent), followed by Karnataka (96.46), Pondicherry (95.98),
Tamil Nadu (95.57), Maharashtra ( 92.77), Kerala (91.60), Andhra
Pradesh (87.53), Daman and Diu (82.61), Andaman and Nicobar (66.68)
and Lakshadweep (66.67).

As many as 8,15,749 candidates had registered for the Class XII
examination from March 1 to April 16, 2012. This marked an increase of
about 5.94 per cent candidates over that of last year.

"This year girls recorded a pass percentage of 92.67 as against 88.87
by the boys. Of the 36,923 boys who appeared, 32,813 passed while
28,526 of the total 30,784 girls cleared the exam," said Sudharsan
Rao, Regional Officer of CBSE, Chennai region.

The CBSE has started the second phase of its tele-counselling facility
to help students and parents from stressed post exam results.

This year 50 principals, trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated
government and private schools and and a few psychologists have been
roped in to address exam related anxieties and psychological problems
faced by students.

While 40 of the tele-counsellors are available in India, 10 have been
assigned to counsel CBSE students in Dubai, Doha, Qatar and Kuwait.
The tele-counselling facility will be available for students and their
parents till June 7.
